The ENERGISE initiative operates as a collaborative consortium uniting leading South African universities with key German academic partners to build capacity and drive transdisciplinary innovation.

Consortium Partner Institutions
Technical University of Munich (TUM)

Tshwane University of Technology (TUT)

University of the Witwatersrand (Wits)

University of Johannesburg (UJ)

University of Venda (Univen)

At Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), the ENERGISE project is spearheaded by the Centre for Energy and Electric Power (CEEP). The TUT team combines decades of expertise in electrical engineering, smart grid technologies, energy management, and sustainable innovation to drive meaningful research and capacity development across Africa.
The ENERGISE Living Labs serve as user-centered, open-innovation ecosystems that bridge laboratory research with real-world application. Rather than testing technologies in isolation, our Living Labs deploy renewable energy systems, microgrids, and demand-side management platforms directly within target communities, municipal setups, and university campus infrastructure.
