Large-scale integration of renewable energy sources to power networks: A brief overview of stability and flexibility perspectives

The growth of renewable energy investment is causing rapid changes in power systems. Solar and wind energy are helping reduce carbon emissions while also introducing new challenges due to their dependence on weather conditions. This research looks at how power networks can continue operating reliably while increasing renewable energy use.

The study describes how large amounts of renewable energy can influence the stability of the power grid. Fluctuations in wind and solar conditions can result in rapid changes in electricity production creating challenges in maintaining a steady flow of electricity. The paper focuses on three important areas of power system stability: frequency, voltage, and rotor angle stability. It also highlights the importance of flexibility, which helps the power system respond quickly to changes in electricity demand and renewable energy generation.

The researchers examine various technologies and strategies to improve grid performance. These incorporate energy storage, smart grid technologies, advanced control strategies, and flexible power system operation. Together, these solutions assist in improving grid reliability while supporting the move toward renewable and cleaner energy solutions.

This study highlights the need for continued innovation in renewable energy integration. By improving both stability and flexibility, power utilities can ensure a more reliable and cleaner electricity supply while contributing to global sustainability efforts.
